Analytical study of tessellated structural-architectural reinforced concrete shear walls

This paper studies the lateral behavior of a reinforced concrete tessellated structural-architectural (TeSA) shear wall system. TeSA walls are made prefabricated repetitive tiles and have ability to localize damage which occurs under extreme loading. A is intended for architectural interest, automated construction, reconfiguration, disassembly, reuse. study focuses on that topologically interlocking in two directions. Nonlinear finite element analysis used monotonic pushover with different edge tile configurations comparison thereof conventional wall. The results indicate strength not significantly affected by configuration tiles. Damage progression number damaged need be replaced also presented at drift ratios. shows reinforcement ratio substantially affects capacity. Finally, simplified cross-sectional procedure proposed provide lower upper bound estimate capacity walls.
